I want to discuss mental activity for just a moment.
(1.) It's daytime. You're looking around and listening to things.
Your mind is a lens.
(2.) You feel inner sensations. Maybe hunger or horniness or signals
to go to the lavatory. These are appetites which go through natural
rhythms and cycles.
(3.) You're feeling things. Maybe you're frightened or angry or
hurt. These emotions can be powerful and compelling as a horse!
Still, they can be quieted.
(4.) You're remembering a dream from last night so you can write
it down. It has an otherworldly character compared to the next activity.
(This is also the gateway to creativity, the first splash of color
on the canvas, the first mistake from there, you also
pick up intuition and spontaneity finally, you can work
from the Imagination of Nature.)
(5.) You're thinking. You're calculating, worrying, scheming, planning,
getting ready to clean the whole house. All this can be quieted.
Let the house clean itself!
(6.) You're feeling sensations. You're sensing your hand, or a
cut. (Pain can be seen as a signal, whose purpose is to attract
your attention, which if you're lucky, is intertwined with libido,
or sex: Such sexually attenuated attention brings about healing.)
(7.) You're lying! That is, you're fabricating a story to tell
someone to boost your feelings of being right, special, important,
or good. Who cares if you're good or bad, important or nothing,
special or common, right or wrong? Well, you cared, to get along
with people after you were traumatized as a child. That's the truth.
For you in particular, there are a series of traumas you can get
at from a strange direction, going younger and younger in your own
childhood, until you (now as an adult) reach the truth (you knew
as a child). Except now, to add to that, you have all the experiences
you've accumulated as an adult! This is mysticism, or alchemy, or
what a flock of girls would call weird.
(8.) The release of these traumas, bound in the tissue of
your muscles and flesh throughout your arms, legs, torso, face and
scalp, are felt in you as deeply satisfying trembles, followed by
sensations up the spine, somehow intertwined with your sexuality.
The traumas you experienced as a child, if you were to experience
them now, as an adult, you would regard as a joke. There's nothing
to be afraid of. The release of these decades-old memories feels
orgasmic, except the sensations occur all over your body, not in
your genitals, whose nature nourishes neuronal growth and provides
inner light.
(9.) You'll have these releases of tension anyway, as you grow
older, and you can just cover them up again by drinking a lot. Or
by getting religious in just the wrong way: You, too, can be right,
special, important and good all over again! Save the world. Work
hard and play hard! What a waste.
(10.) You're in a School for Real Telepaths, (as someone at altavista.com
asked last night, though when they arrived at rootgarden.com, and
saw nothing but poem titles they never stopped to read, immediately
left!) and you've spent a little time normalizing yourself after
you've released energy from your latest childhood lockdown, and
you're about to ask a question in a Monday night meeting,
and instead, you feel a slight elevation in the sensations around
your eyes, not far from the bridge of your nose, and you notice
your libido has also been elevated, just maybe a quarter of a percent,
and your teacher answers your question telepathically.
(11.) The question I had was, "What
will give greatest strength to my unbound self, after
it has been released, so that it isn't crushed in the vicissitudes
of everyday life?" and the quieting of my impulse to speak,
along with the telepathic answer itself, (which was, "You'll
see," followed by a stream of realizations having
to do with staying hidden,) was the very form the answer
took!
(12.) You're reading something. Now this is a very interesting
form of mental activity, because we're using a symbol stream (the
sentences, words, and letters here) to convey direct mind-to-mind
communication, which I suppose you could also call telepathy! Weird,
isn't it? I'm taking you on a trip, from the top of this page to
the bottom, a little journey through your own mind.
(13.) You're strung out on heroin, flying on methamphetamine, watching
streamers on LSD, flowering on marijuana, or taking some straight
drug I don't know about. That's pretty much because you're being
driven by almost overwhelming hunger for a mom (2.) and don't
know how to quiet activities (3.) and (5.) and (7.)
on your own, which requires specific practice, knowledge and experience
in the marketplace ... the way of the Sufi ... so you've set
up an alternative feeding schedule for yourself, which is drugs.
(14.) Meanwhile, you can at least enjoy the different ways your
mind works during the day, during the evening, while you're having
sex, or while you're dreaming at night. Or maybe just go to a movie.
(15.) If it were me, and I wanted to experience a taste of "the
other," and you're just sick of being bored to death, I'd take
a look at the following poem by David Daniels:

It's a pdf file, and may take a while to load. If I was Whitney,
I'd look at the following URL:
