What I'm about to describe happened over roughly two hours, beginning
at 10:30 this morning, sleeping late on a day off, while I was lying
on my back under three blankets on my bed, with two little dogs
nearby, neighbors above and next door doing ordinary things through
thin walls, while I was waking and dreaming.
When I first awoke, I realized I was still dreaming, and kept still,
simply watching. I think my keeping still allowed things to progress,
because the various characters in the dream appeared to ignore my
stillness. As I watch (I see) I am in a room, in perhaps a brick-floored
villa in Greece, and realize I'm in a labyrinth of some kind. Going
to one wall after another, or to one corner or another, it suddenly
occurs to me not to do anything. (Because I'm actually awake watching
this dream, so my awakened thoughts get piped in, so to speak).
The idea is, do absolutely nothing. Rather than try to find something,
let something find me!
(Continuing the dream) I'm an old person, I see, old and infirm,
and (in my outer consciousness I suddenly get the idea I can touch
various parts of my physical body, and in this way modify the course
of the dream! (and then I fall more deeply asleep, though not so
deep as to keep me from noticing my attention suddenly grabbed by
a sensation in the center of my belly!)) I'm in and above a flood
of rising water, coming up to ankle level in the room (and I notice
the sensation of my crossed ankles in my bed, under three blankets,
and realize the sensation is a little uncomfortable, so I cross
them the other way and fall back into the dream) I'm at a grey slate
wall ahead of me to the right, in front of what appears to be an
oversized door knob or something, all clouded and dreamlike, not
like a vision at all, I realize, which would be much more immediate,
vividly colored, and high-resolution ... no all this is occurring
at some background level of my mind, maybe three layers deep, if
there can be such a place. (I feel a familiar part of me appropriate,
or commandeer, a whole new neuronal circuit, this one reaching around
through my left ear, perhaps including a spot on my right forearm,
and including a place on my inner right calf, and transforming the
entire neuronal circuit into a ridiculously pleasurable sensation
reminding me of jagged silver candy with a taste of deep chocolate)
Then in the dream something happened at about three hundred miles
an hour. Something came through the right wall ahead of me, as if
it was part of the wall itself, and set down what appeared to be
the end of an extension cord, whose extended rectangular end was
simply an elongated grey block, the kind of thing you might notice
in an electronics store and take for a control box of some kind.
(Again, I kept still lying there on my back) and the wall retook
its previous inert greyness (Fin)
(Dream) I turn the knob in the wall and the wall becomes the floor,
and all around me are grey bamboo shoots, cut off to resemble floor-organ
pipes, cut off at different levels, so together, their tops form
smooth contours ... The open floor pipes, at different levels,
have larger and larger diameters, and one quite near me is big enough
to dive into, if it weren't so black. (Fin)
