(Dream) I'm surprised when my friends at the Temari Japanese Restaurant
bring me coffee! They remembered what I said about it, and as I'm
talking to Mari, the owners' beautiful daughter, fall asleep for
a moment on my bed, and when I wake up, realize I've spilled a little
on the sheets. I quickly dab up the coffee before it even has a
chance to seep into the white linen, and go across the bedroom to
dab extra coffee off the wall. Going around the corner, I realize
not everything on the walls has to do with my coffee, and go back
to talking to Mari. (Fin)
(Dream) The man with a pistol isn't as bright as I thought. I hold
a finger to his chest, and as I back away, notice someone else has
replaced me, holding a finger against his lower abdomen to keep
him from drawing. Suddenly, the man with a pistol does draw and
shoots at someone at the end of the block. Taking this as a cue,
I dive away, keeping my body as low and awkwardly moving as possible,
to present the most ludicrous target to anyone aiming at my ass.
I whistle to Achilles and tell him, "Pool!" and he knows
what I mean, darting off through some plants to the hotel swimming
pool on the other side of the building. I go down and around the
building after him, past the pool to the beach, where I encounter
Andy and a few members of the gang all converging near his black
Jeep, which is dangerously close to a dune drop-off. Dennis and
his cohorts show up, then go off again with some of the girls, and
I help Andy get his Jeep a few yards away from the precipice, which
turns out to be easier than it looks. Keeping my eye inward toward
the shore, with my back to the ocean, why am I not at all surprised
by the appearance of Whitney, who sits for a moment drinking in
the situation? Neither of us say a word; I gaze from her left eye
to her right eye and back again, noticing the mutual knowledge we
share, easily removing the slight wash of fear. Without further
ado, she gets up and goes to talk to other members of the crew,
slightly down the beach. (Fin)
