In May of 1972 David Daniels said, "If you hold a question
now, someday you will realize you have lived into the answer."
Then in last night's secret meeting he told Marlyn, "'Trying'
should evolve into 'doing,' and 'searching' should evolve into 'being.'"
Back in 1972 he also said, "Patience is to bear the unbearable,"
which I really hope is an exaggeration, because I haven't run into
anything that's actually unbearable, though I have been holding
a question these last thirty-one years.
When you first get into mysticism and learn about real schools,
you notice there are a number of books on the subject, most of them
written by people who are 'searching.' Those books, especially the
ones that aren't religious, make sense.
Then there are books by adepts, such as Gurdjieff, who you know
had 'being,' yet whose symbolism or poetry or wit proved too insurmountable
for me to actually read them Also, I'm lazy.
So there are two groups: The people who are 'searching,' who make
things easy, and make sense, and the people who have 'being,' who
make things difficult, and don't make sense.
So I thought, back in 1972, why shouldn't there be a book by someone
who was finally making the transition from 'searching' to 'being?'
Then you could actually witness them changing from making sense
to not making sense! Oh, joy!
