The
Root Garden is the joint work of a brother-and-sister team,
Richard Ames Hart and Amoret Phillips: the brother does the writing,
the sister, the illustrations. There are two literary works here,
"Burnt Toast," a collection of trimly-written and skillfully evocative
erotic poems, and "Journey to Join the Telepaths," an introspective
journal of intellectual, spiritual and emotional discovery (a
work in progress). Both are liberally sprinkled with Ms. Phillips'
watercolours and computer-generated illustrations that defy pigeon-holing:
some are totemic, almost primal, some Chagall-like and others
reminiscent of Guatemalan embroidery. Hart lives in the San Francisco
Bay Area, Phillips in North Carolina. A gem of a site!
