Red Hurts

I almost collided with Mary coming out the taxi dispatch door – just as I was getting ready to pay my gates for the day – I netted a little over twelve dollars in ten hours, can you believe it? I got in line shortly after she got back, and when I reached her window, she murmured something I couldn't hear. That happens a lot. "Hmm?" I asked, "I couldn't hear." She repeated it: "You look pretty in blue," she said, almost blushing. "You look pretty ... bumping into you ..." I paused, then added, "... said the bluebird to the chipmunk!" Well, I've never seen anyone look at me with such deep brown eyes. Now ... if someone just doesn't murder me.
